As if we needed another reminder that Democrats do not want America to find out what they are doing, American Family Association sent out this alert:

Democrat House Members are refusing to allow Republican House Members to mail a diagram of the bureaucratic mess which President Obama is proposing with his health care plan..

Someone who was at our April meeting has gone to a liberal blog to tell the story. Too bad he had to exaggerate and lie.

Overly zealous? We love America and vigorously defend her freedoms.

Anti everything? Read our platform. We are FOR traditional families. Only liberals say we are anti everything because they ignore what we stand for.

Tea bagging? I assume this refers to Tea Parties. Yea, we like less taxes.

Evangelicals? Since when is that a slur? Is this website saying that if you are an Evangelical you are not allowed to hold an opinion or vote?

Hijacked? When there is only two votes against something we don't call that hijacked we call that a landslide. Liberals call it mob rule. Hijaked? Mob Rule? Seems like an oxymoron.

Just in time for Gay Pride month, Obama promises to pass hate speech legislation that some fear could intimidate religious speech, in the vain attempt for homosexuals to have "good feelings" for him.

Among those promises the president is pursuing, he said: Overturning the federal Defense of Marriage Act, passing a law to mandate health-care and other benefits to homosexual domestic partners, repealing "don't ask, don't tell" and even "rescinding the discriminatory ban on entry to the United States based on HIV status."

Cap and Trade Vote and RINO's

Cap and Trade passes by six. Fifty Democrats had the courage to vote no on this nonsense. Eight Republicans didn't. Among them was Dave Reichert. Had the eight Republicans voted no it would not have passed. Doc voted against it.
Luckily, it seems to be unable to pass the Senate. (well as of right now- who knows what could happen in the next two months.)

Of course what was actually in the Cap and Trade Bill, said to involve something about cutting back on the production of greenhouse gasses, was beside the point. It has been mentioned before that Cap and Trade is, for all intents and purposes, a tax on energy that will cost every American thousands of dollars once it is fully implemented. And on top of that, Cap and Trade has trade provisions of the like that has not been seen since Smoot Hawley.

Under a cap-and-trade system, government sets a cap on the total amount of carbon that can be emitted nationally; companies then buy or sell permits to emit CO2. The cap gets cranked down over time to reduce total carbon emissions...The hit to GDP is the real threat in this bill. The whole point of cap and trade is to hike the price of electricity and gas so that Americans will use less. These higher prices will show up not just in electricity bills or at the gas station but in every manufactured good, from food to cars. Consumers will cut back on spending, which in turn will cut back on production, which results in fewer jobs created or higher unemployment. Some companies will instead move their operations overseas, with the same result.

Even as Democrats have promised that this cap-and-trade legislation won't pinch wallets, behind the scenes they've acknowledged the energy price tsunami that is coming. During the brief few days in which the bill was debated in the House Energy Committee, Republicans offered three amendments: one to suspend the program if gas hit $5 a gallon; one to suspend the program if electricity prices rose 10% over 2009; and one to suspend the program if unemployment rates hit 15%. Democrats defeated all of them.

This little nugget appears in the introduction of SB5688;

It is the intent of the legislature that for all purposes under
state law, state registered domestic partners shall be treated the same as married spouses.

Is this the intent of the people of Washington state? This is exactly what is needed to introduce state sponsored intimidation of anyone who does not see married couples as equal to domestic partnerships. It will be used to justify curriculum in kindergarten that will contaminate the traditional definition of marriage. It will allow people to prosecute any entity that disagrees with the purpose of this legislation. Look how the Boy Scouts have been treated since they stood up for their right to exclude homosexuals from leadership positions. It was used for state sponsored intimidation.
There are almost two hundred places in our laws that deal with marriage status. Do we really have any idea how much this will pervade our lives? And will they come back next year with more places in the law that need to be addressed? You bet they will!
Our politicians want us to believe they are representing all people, but the truth is that they only represent the people who will vote their convictions. Will you remember the issues and how the candidates voted on them when you go vote? They are counting on you to hold your nose and vote for them anyway....

We CANNOT rely on schools to protect our children. This from Family Research Council:

Kevin Jennings, founder of the Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network (GLSEN), was appointed by Secretary of Education Arne Duncan to be Assistant Deputy Secretary for the Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools. GLSEN is the chief national group promoting policies to force affirmation of homosexuality in schools, beginning in kindergarten. GLSEN once sponsored a conference at Tufts University that was advertised to "youth only ages 14 to 21." Three homosexual activists employed by the Massachusetts Departments of Health and Education led a youth workshop titled "What They Didn't Tell You about Queer Sex & Sexuality in Health Class." Among other activities, the activists guided the students on gay sex practices.

Jennings has spoken publicly about a high school student he once counseled who was in a sexual relationship with an older man -- yet Jennings never reported this abuse to the authorities, the school, or the child's parents. Should he be overseeing a major federal program designed to promote the health and well being of students and families? We can only assume, given his past, that he will steer grant money toward programs like those offered by GLSEN that put a homosexual agenda ahead of the rights of parents and the safety of students.

This is unacceptable. Jennings' appointment should be withdrawn. Email Arne Duncan today. Tell him to withdraw the appointment of Kevin Jennings.

"The Worst Thing About Gay Marriage" from the Weekly Standard puts into words the things we all know about marriage, but because it is so ingrained we don't know how to put it into words. This is the BEST article I've ever seen about the issue. It will arm us will common sense to speak to others about what the harm will be. It's well done without any "homophobia" or "hate speech". It lays out the obligations that marriage entails and how gay marriage will not carry any of them, and will therefore destroy them in all marriages, endangering women and children whose protection marriage is all about.

It seems the folks who like to write letters to the editor are content to complain but can't be bothered to get some experience or go to a meeting. If we want to change the image of the party we need to get people out to meetings. We need to explain how the party system should work and how we act as the balance to the politicians temptation to overreach. America's collective detour away from political involvement has allowed the politicians in Olympia and DC to get away with things like bailouts, porkulus, and expanded domestic partnerships. Yet they now turn on the parties and blame them not realizing like most things they are exposing their own lack of understanding and lack of action. Too often Americans think they can stand up once and for all. We must learn that freedom requires eternal vigilance.
Let's all bring someone to the next meeting!

Follow Up on the Press-Release

The Tri-City Herald ran an editorial about us on May 18th.
There was this letter to the editor. The comments are the same stupid people going back and forth without saying anything valuable.
There is also this pretty boring letter praising Maureen Walsh. All the same rabid commentators show up here to praise the letter writer. Interesting that one of them wishes to vote for Maureen but can't. I wonder if these commenters are from another state?
Here our own John Talbott sticks up for what the press release was actually about- the party asserting American values rather than pandering to the lowest common denominator in it's pursuit of electoral victory. Of course you have the same commentators.
Another letter, this one urging us to "moderate" and predicting the demise of the conservative wing of the Republican Party. Again, predictable comments. Blah Blah Blah......
And someone who thinks we would be better off without the parties. Wonder if he has ever be to a meeting, or has a clue how the party really works. Another repeat commenter.
One typical stereotype of Republicans and Democrats here. I'll save you the time to read it. Republicans bad, and stupid, -Democrats good, and enlightened. Some mildly interesting comments. Of course the same demagogues are present.

Censure of Maureen Walsh

At our last meeting we voted to censure Maureen Walsh and asked Nicole Prasch and Brenda High to come up with a press release to be approved by the executive committee. It has been approved and will be released today.

On April 21, 2009, at the Franklin County Republican Central Committee meeting, the Committee overwhelmingly voted to censure 16th District Legislator, Maureen Walsh, for her sponsorship of the recently passed HB 1727.

HB 1727 inserts the following language in nearly 200 different places within its text:

“The terms spouse, marriage, marital, husband, wife, widow, widower, next of kin, and family shall be interpreted as applying equally to state registered domestic partnerships or individuals in state registered domestic partnerships as well as to marital relationships and married persons …Gender- specific terms such as husband and wife used in any statute, rule, or other law shall be construed to be gender neutral, and applicable to individuals in state registered domestic partnerships.”

Despite all her rhetoric otherwise, it has become indisputable to the Franklin County Republican Central Committee that Rep. Walsh is actively working to incrementally legalize gay marriages. As early as the 2006 legislative session, Rep. Walsh was working to expand the jurisdiction of the Human Rights Commission to include cases of discrimination because of a person’s sexual orientation with her co-sponsorship or HB 2661.

The Franklin County Republican Platform states:

“Families are the center of our culture and the basic unit of society. Traditional families must be protected and honored. Traditional marriage must remain the only acceptable form of legally protected marriage. Marriage is only between a man and a woman and should not be redefined.”

Representative Walsh has claimed that Republicans favor her agenda of stripping traditional marriage of its meaning and watering down the definition of the words “marriage” and “family”. Thus, we, The Franklin County Republican Central Committee, formally give the Franklin County community and voting constituents of District 16, NOTICE, that Representative Maureen Walsh does not represent the values of the Franklin County Republican Party.

FAMILY, SOCIAL AND MORAL ISSUES

1. Families are the center of our culture and the basic unit of society. Traditional families must be protected and honored. Traditional marriage must remain the only acceptable form of legally protected marriage. Marriage is only between a man and a woman and should not be redefined. We support Defense of Marriage Act and request that all measures be taken to protect this law and similar laws in the states.

2. We support the traditional family as the basic provider of health, education, and welfare. We believe in the sole right of parents to direct the upbringing of their children. Parents must have sole and final rights to decide all activities and influences in the lives of their children.

3. We oppose a definition of family that includes any alternate life style. Children have a right to a mother and a father. Welfare is the primary responsibility of the family, church and voluntary community-based agencies and only secondarily the responsibility of each county and state.

4. We oppose any legislation that would confer handicap or protected status to homosexuals or bisexuals. We oppose recognition of homosexual marriages and marriage benefits to homosexual couples. We oppose government funded “diversity training” that equates sexual orientation with age, race, and sex.

5. We believe all humans (born or preborn) have a right to life regardless of age, health, or condition of dependency. We are opposed to assisted suicide, euthanasia, infanticide, human cloning and partial birth abortion. We are opposed to abortion, except in cases when the life of the mother is medically endangered. We oppose any tax dollars going to pay for abortion, abortion research, and abortion education, specifically Planned Parenthood or similar organizations, or to foreign aid used to perform abortions. We oppose any tax dollars being used for research for human cloning or on any fetal tissue or embryos. We strongly support life and condemn embryonic stem cell research.

6. We demand a law which mandates that dependents under the age of 18 require parental consent to receive abortion or birth control related counseling or to undergo abortion surgery the same as is required for other medications and medical procedures.

7. We support eliminating the marriage penalty in tax law.

8. We oppose legalized gambling and prostitution.

9. Legislation should be passed establishing English as the national language of the United States.

10. We believe that all religious and private organizations, such as the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and 4H, do have full constitutional rights to exclude homosexuals, lesbians and bisexuals and have the right to set their own organizational policies and requirements.

Hastings Rejects Spendulus 09

Hastings Rejects Trillion Dollar Spending Bill

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Doc Hastings released the following statement today after voting against the Democrat spending bill:

“The pain of the recession is being felt by families, small businesses and communities across our nation. With our state facing an unemployment rate of over 7 percent, our top priority must be stimulating the economy and creating jobs now. Unfortunately this bill is not about jobs – it’s about bigger government and more spending.

This bill will saddle our children and grandchildren with massive debt, while failing to provide the type of fast relief needed to help small job-creating small businesses and struggling families.

Like many Americans, I don’t believe extra money for the National Endowment for the Arts, computer systems for federal agencies, the 2010 census or NASA climate change research has any place in a bill designed solely to create jobs and stimulate our economy.

We can do better. Providing tax relief to all Americans, holding the line on deficit spending and using taxpayer dollars efficiently is necessary if we want to get our economy back on track now.”

Doc Hastings February 12th Comments on Spendulus 09

Yesterday, at an Energy Conference he spoke about the need for nuclear clean up spending and its presence in this high-speed spending bill. Then he speaks on the bill in general the philosophy behind it.

I believe Congress must act, but our actions need to reflect the fact that our economy is driven by the private sector. Whatever we do must be focused on policies that will stimulate small businesses and create jobs.
A stimulus package based primarily on government spending historically has never worked. All signs, since no final bill has yet been made public, suggests this is what the stimulus package will be. We cannot spend our way to prosperity – I think most Americans instinctively know that. All we end up doing is saddling our children and grandchildren with massive debt.

I am so glad to see that Doc understands that we cannot spend ourselves out of this trouble. He also includes an honest assessment of the secret process used to pass this bill.

I was disappointed that the House stimulus bill was drafted in secret without the ability of individual lawmakers, Republican and Democrat, to contribute to or improve the legislation. Unfortunately, a more transparent, open process was not used to finish the final bill this week.

The high amount of spending in this bill for nuclear clean up looks to me like bribe, and I am glad that Hastings does not fall for it. He rightly points our the danger that accepting this would bring:

For example, it would be extremely unfair and harmful if increased stimulus funding for cleanup was later used as an excuse to reduce budget requests and annual appropriations.

We need wise and honest men like Doc Hastings in government. Men who can see the longer term, not fall for the not so veiled bribery, and have a long vision of the future and how our actions affect future generations.

Where Does Doc Stand on Spendulous 09?

I called Congressman Doc Hastings Washington DC office to find out where the outrage about this sneak slimy Democrat middle of the night rush rush coup can be found. I was directed to a couple places on his website.
In his January 23rd weekly Column he acknowledges the need for swift action but wants that action to be real stimulation for businesses:

Congress must hold the line on deficit spending and enact fast acting tax cuts for small businesses and individuals to boost our economy and create jobs.

He then goes on to expose some of the (not) stimulus spending in the House version of the bill:

Among other things, the plan written by congressional Democrats includes:

• $50 million extra for the National Endowment for the Arts,
• $20 billion more for food stamps,
• $1 billion for the 2010 census,
• $6 billion for the weatherization of “modest income” homes,
• $900 million for Social Security Administration computer systems, and
• $200 million for National Mall repairs in Washington, D.C.

It’s difficult to understand what these projects have to do with immediate job creation or stimulating our economy.

Among his concerns are the tremendous debt put on our children and grandchildren, and the massive growth of government under this one bill, and the fact that more than half of this money is not even being used in the near future.
Doc Hastings voted against the House bill.

What I want to know is why the rush if more than half the money won't be spent for years? This bill is being rammed down our throats so fast it needs an aggressive driving ticket! Where is the outrage at the fact that there is not enough time to read this bill before voting on the conference version? There's plenty of outrage in the grassroots. I asked Doc's secretary where is Doc's outrage? They are getting back to me on that.

This website will allow you to send a letter to your senators, President Obama and VP Biden asking them to stop this pork filled (not) stimulus bill. Senators will be filled in after you put in address info. Even if we think our Senators will not change their minds we still need to stand up for what is the right thing to do. Silence only empowers them to say that their constituents wanted them to vote for this bill.
